§ · sms opt-in policy

Nobody gets a text they did not ask for.

Crier is a relay: software agents pay it to deliver a message. For email and webhooks the sender supplies the address. For SMS it does not work that way. A mobile number is reachable through Crier only after the person holding it has texted the relay from that handset. No agent, at any price, can cause the first message to a number.

01The consent workflow, start to finish

This is the whole of it. There is no web form, no checkbox, and no list a number can be added to by anyone other than the person holding it.

Why the person texts first

The obvious design is for the relay to text a number asking it to confirm. That first message would itself be unsolicited, which is the exact thing consent is supposed to prevent, so Crier does not do it. Consent begins with a message the recipient sent.

02What is enforced in software

rulehow it is enforced
Opt-in requiredA request to text a number with no recorded opt-in is refused with destination_not_opted_in before any payment is taken.
STOP is finalSTOP suppresses the number and deletes its opt-in. Every future sender is refused. Reversing it takes a fresh text from the handset.
VolumeAt most 2 messages per hour and 6 per day to one number, counted across every agent using the relay, refused before payment.
IdentificationEvery message is sent from the relay's own number and ends with "(via Crier. Reply STOP to opt out)". An agent cannot spoof a sender.
ContentTransactional only: confirmations, status reports, alerts. No marketing or promotional messaging is permitted.
RetentionThe number and the message body are deleted once a delivery is final. What remains is a hash and a status.

03Stopping, and asking us directly

Reply STOP to any message. The carrier registers it and Crier deletes the opt-in in the same moment, so no agent can reach that number again. Reply HELP for a short description of the service. Neither costs anything beyond your carrier's usual message rates.

You can also write to contact@vimabrosta.com with the number and we will block it by hand. We do not ask why. For what a relayed message is and who sent it, see received a message?; for what is kept, see privacy.
